About us
Meet the Brightwater Lodge Team
At Brightwater Lodge, hospitality is not just a service—it’s a shared way of life. The lodge is proudly run by Alex Colenso, along with his close-knit team: Lilly, the live-in manageress with a sixth sense for guest comfort, and Yazeen, the multi-talented caretaker and all-rounder who keeps everything running like clockwork (and knows exactly where that missing remote is).
Together, this dynamic trio forms the heart of Brightwater Lodge. With years of friendship, collaboration, and shared laughter behind them, they bring a rare kind of harmony to the guest experience—each bringing their unique strengths, all devoted to one mission: making you feel right at home.
Alex, a former educator turned guesthouse host, brings his global experience and passion for people into every detail of your stay. Whether you need local tips, a breakfast recommendation, or help planning a peninsula day trip, he’s your go-to guy.
Lilly, with her quiet charm and can-do spirit, ensures that everything at Brightwater runs smoothly. She has a gift for anticipating guest needs and somehow manages to keep the lodge spotless, serene, and welcoming—often all before your first cup of coffee.
And then there’s Yazeen, the man who does it all. Need your bags carried? Lightbulb replaced? Braai fired up? He’s already there with a smile and a story, making sure everything is in place and everyone is at ease.
Guests often leave with fond memories not only of the mountain views or coastal walks, but of the genuine warmth and care this trio brings to every moment. At Brightwater Lodge, you’re not just booking a room—you’re stepping into a space where comfort, character, and community come together.
So come on in—your hosts are ready, the kettle’s on, and the mountains are waiting.
Meet the Team
Alex Colenso
Guesthouse owner

As the owner of Brightwater Lodge, I bring the same care, dedication, and attention to detail that I’ve applied throughout my career as an educator and team leader. With over 20 years of international experience in education and project management, I’ve always been passionate about working with people and creating environments where others feel inspired, supported, and at home.
My love for the natural world and community spirit led me back to my home, Hout Bay, where I now proudly run this welcoming guesthouse. Whether you’re here for adventure, rest, or discovery, it’s my goal to make your stay memorable, comfortable, and filled with the warmth that defines Brightwater Lodge.
I look forward to welcoming you.
Cheers,
Alex
Lilly Williams
Manageress and Housekeeper

Hi, I’m Lilly, and Brightwater Lodge has been my second home for many years. Originally from Prieska in the Northern Cape, I made my way to Hout Bay long ago—and never looked back. It’s where my children and grandchildren now live, and where my heart truly feels at home.
I’ve been part of the Brightwater family since the days of the previous owners, and over time, I’ve come to know every corner of this lodge—its rhythm, its quirks, and what makes it special. I’m here to make sure everything runs smoothly for our guests. From preparing breakfast in the mornings to welcoming you at check-in or waving you off at check-out, I take pride in making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
When Alex is away, I step in to make sure things carry on just as they should—quietly, reliably, and with a warm smile. I love meeting people from all walks of life, and I look forward to welcoming you to Brightwater Lodge, where we treat every guest like family.
See you soon,
Lilly
Yasim Imulani
Caretaker and All-rounder

Hi,
I’m Yasim. I’m originally from Malawi, but Hout Bay has been my home for nearly ten years now. I live here with my wife and our little daughter, Ama, who keeps us on our toes and smiling every day.
My journey with Brightwater Lodge began in a special way. I first worked on the estate of Alex’s mom, where I learned to care for spaces with pride and precision. When Alex took over the lodge, he quickly saw the value of having someone who knows how to keep things running smoothly and looking their best—and I was happy to join him.
I come from an upholstery background, so I naturally pay attention to detail and love making spaces feel fresh, comfortable, and inviting. Whether it’s fixing something behind the scenes, freshening up a room, or helping guests feel welcome, I’m always happy to lend a hand. I believe it’s the little touches that make a big difference, and I take pride in doing just that at Brightwater Lodge.
Many greetings,
Yasim
